Although new vehicles from major manufacturers (including Vauxhall, Volvo, Ford and Rover) can be purchased from the showroom already running on LPG, many cars are successfully converted by aftermarket installers.
Petrol conversions can be relatively straightforward. Complete fuel replacement for Diesel engines is more complex as the compression ratio has to be altered and a spark ignition system added.
There is a varied choice on the selection of possible tanks designed to suit your own individual requirements.
Prices vary depending on the specification of the vehicle to be converted, your requirements and system to fit.
Older vehicles (1993 and older) can be converted from just £850.
Our average price for a modern multipoint injection LPG system engine conversion starts at £1250 - all inclusive. Depending on your annual mileage, this initial outlay can usually be recouped within the 1st year in average (excellent ROI - Return of Investment).
(Beware of cheaper quotes using inferior components that could cause problems.)
It is strongly recommended that all conversions are completed by LPGA Approved Installers so that customers can have the assurance that the Scheme brings.
The Association operates the "LPGA Approved Installer Scheme" set up in conjunction with the DfT, as the standard for the industry and the only scheme to receive official government recognition. Companies in the Scheme have undergone training, taken written examinations and have been through a thorough inspection process to demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and knowledge in order to carry out this work in a safe and satisfactory manner. It is a requirement for any conversions for which Powershift grants are sought that the work is undertaken by participants in the Scheme.
